  11. For the Junior All American Bowl, I'm questioning whether you checked eligibility requirements for all of the states. I check with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association high governs high school sports in PA. Their exact wording regarding eligibility for All Start Contests is, "You will lose your eligibility ina sport for one year if you participate in an all-star Contest in that sport." This would be a HUGE problem for my son and now I have to tell him we can't go to Dallas. You should advise all Junior Bowl participants to check their states eligibility requirements.

  15. DALLAS IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR THESE KIDS, BUT FOR KIDS LIKE THE ONE ABOVE DALLAS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRANGED FOR NEXT YEAR. THAT WOULD BE ANOTHER MOTIVATING INCENTIVE FOR THEM TO PLAY HARD, AND ALSO WOULD HAVE GIVEN PARENTS AMPLE TIME TO PLAN AND ALSO SAVE.

  16. Why do you charge $200 if not staying at your recommended hotel? What does that $200 cover? Is that your kick-back from the hotels for each room booked?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Does anyone know the day and time of the junior bowl?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am wondering the same thing about the $200 charge for not staying in one of the "O-D Approved" hotels. When the hotel information was not posted on the 1st like was stated, I found a hotel and made our reservations. Our airline tickets are already purchased and we are flying in two days early and staying three days longer. What is the extra charge at and "O-D approved" hotel for my extra nights?

  19. not to butt my nose in but what about there overhead and cost of jerseys..etc, some of these comments are down right horrible and no i'm not wealthy but this event is priceless, what i have done is fund raisers for my son, like car washes, dinner raffles..etc..keep in mind irene hit us around the time certain info was surpose to be posted, they have family's to worry about also, o-d is a top notch camp, there doing the best they can, so let's cut them some slack and no i don't work for o-d just a parent. one last thing if your that angry just simply don't go!! no one is forcing anyone to go! sorry o-d if i have over stepped my boundries but this is surpose to a positive experience but 90% of these post are negative, c'mon parents step up and show your son how to pull the positives out of every situation.

  20. Agreed. There are costs involved for O and D and if you want to be a hater then do not go !!

  21. We went to Myrtle Beach last year and was disappointed how the youth FB games went... only an 1hr per game with coaches as referees. We spent over 1,500 for 3days practice time and 1hr of play time. At least you can schedule a real FB game with real referees like the high school FB game. With the money we're spending to travel to Dallas will the 13-14 age group be able to play a full game with real referees and special teams just like the Under Armour Bowl?

    ReplyDelete
  22. In defense of my own post. I realize the expense to put on this bowl. What I am wanting to know is why if we book our hotel through O-D there is no extra charge, but if we book on our own there is? My family is all about football, we run a youth program that my son is no longer in. I'm not a hater or angry, I am fundraising to help with costs, but we work hard for every penny we make and want to know why the extra cost. That's $200 that could be spent on merchandise for my son while at the bowl game.

  23. Has O-D checked into the High School requirements for the players in the Junior All-American Bowl? Some states says that you will lose your eligibility in a sport for one year if you participate in an all-star Contest in that sport. This would be a problem for the kids.

  24. Will attending the junior bowl cause me to be inelgible for my senior year of high school football?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can someone please provide the on-line link to register? I see the hard copy version, but no link to register on line. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  26. About the Jr. Bowl...you should really check with your own state regarding eligibility...while OD said they were checking with each state, someone earlier mentioned that it does hurt eligibility in PA and I'll bet it's the same with other states...OD really should have made this clear for their Jr. Bowl athletes...

    ReplyDelete
  27. In regards to registering....I was told by OD that once you register for the hotel online, it will also serve as your registration to attend the bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oops, also, no cost for jersey's and maybe pants (they are working on that). no cost to register your son...and parents will have to provide food for the players. You can bring your own equipment or rent ($60).

  29. ATTENTION IF YOU LIVE IN VIRGINIA! The same rules that apply to Pennsylvania apply to state of Virginia. My 11th grader would be ineligible to play football again until December of his senior year - bascially losing out on the chance for recruiting.....CHECK YOUR STATE'S ELIGIBILITY RULES. I went to my son's Athletic Director for information and he guided me to the specific rules in our (Virginia) High School League rule book! He also stated the 3/4 of the high schools in the United States have the SAME RULES! I am so disappointed - both in the OD camp for not detailing that we CHECK this information and that my son cannot participate!
    BUT CHECK BEFORE YOU BOOK!

  30. Is O-D going to list on the website which states is effected by the Eligibility Rules for players in the 9th thru 11th grades?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Check your state but MOST do allow it.I know Michigan and a few North Eastern states do not but as far as the comment that 3/4 do not allow it, that is wrong by a large margin. Go to your states governing bodies web site for high school athletics and look it up.If you are not satisfied with what you see call them. Most states do have rules about accepting gifts at these events which can be pretty stringent such as shoes, shirts, travel etc etc. but they do not restrict participation.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wait.... I think the costs are average, but I NEED TO KNOW, if the youth game (9&10 yr olds) game will have REAL officiating, and with REAL game length. I AM NOT traveling, paying nearly $1500-2000 for airfare and accommodations, to see my son play in an over-rated scrimmage.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is no different than the 7 on 7 all star tournaments they have all over the country or the basketball tournaments etc etc.The post above about MOST states not allowing it is not correct. Most DO allow it but with restrictions on benifits.Check with YOUR states rules.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We live in Wisconsin. I just checked with our schools athletic director, who, in turn contacted the WIAA. The rules are the same here as noted above for PA. Because he was chosen as an "elite" athlete in a "All American" activity, my son would lose eligibility for one year if he were to participate. However, if it was an international competition (i.e. US vs Canada, it would be okay. ???! It is the WIAA's belief that this type of exposure exploits our children. I disagree. My son has worked very hard to get where he is and this game is his reward for his hard work. The school team, as well, has benefited from his training with the O-D organization. I do not understand this mind-frame at all. His award has done nothing but urge him to work even harder to get where he want to go. I was told that if this were in the summer, it would be fine. It just cannot be within the school year. Don't understand that either.

    ReplyDelete
  35. to the post above, be sure that they clarify, that is it the school yr or the football season, if its the school yr that will stink but if its the football season, you should be alright because the season will be over by that time, i dont want to butt my nose in but i hate to see political B.S hurt such hard working athletes. good luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I feel that O-D should come out and make a statement about this eligibility rules that alot kids are facing. It would be ashamed if a player would lose a year of playing time because of playing in the bowl game.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i'm sorry but these states that would take this from these HARD working athlete's should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!! even if o-d posted the rules from each state doesn't change the fact that the states even have this B.S rule that would only hurt the athlete, i'm sorry but i don't see anything wrong with a athlete going to the bowl, REALLY whats it gonna hurt to allow them to compete, maybe sit down with your athletic director and have a heart to heart talk in how this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity, thats what i had to do and luckily it worked. GOOD LUCK!!!

  38. Players from New Mexico are good to go! They are eligible to participate in full contact events as long as they are not during their season and are not "team" related. Read your state rules very carefully, I have heard that many states are eligible with the exception of a few. I do feel terrible for those kids that can not participate but how can they participate in a non-school related full contact camp but they can not participate in a non-school, non-season all-star event? This just does not make sense to me and it sounds like some athletic governing bodies are trying to pull power trips. You would think that as a state and athletic governing body that they would be proud that they are being represented by these outstanding athletes.

  39. california kids can't do it

    ReplyDelete
  40. As the above person haas stated read the rules carefully most states allow you to play as long as you dont do it while the season is in session
    CT boys are good

    ReplyDelete
  41. Check California again.I am pretty sure it is good to go.Some states vary with interpretation and you have to be clear it is not payed for. There were California kids playing in the Nike 7 on 7 tournament all star teams that play around the country so I dont see a difference.Be carefull but alot of times its allowed with restrictions on benefits even though they walked away with a ton of Nike stuff Im sure. There are AAU basketball teams(all star) baseball teams ( all star) soccer teams (club and all star) softball teams (club and all star) playing all over the country from all different states in tournaments. How is that different? There must be a reason they are allowed to do it.Can the Virginia contingent explain this as they also had kids playing in the Nike all star tournaments? I know Texas is good to go but check carefully and be positive about the rule.Again many kids particpate in all kinds of all star tournaments from all states. Why is that allowed if the other is not?

    ReplyDelete
  42. This what Tennessee says about it: A student may not participate in an all-star game unless it is sanctioned by the TSSAA and unless he/she has completed high school eligibility in that sport. Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association

    ReplyDelete
  43. People please get on the phone or speak to you AD these rules are as it pertains to school during the season the sport is played

    ReplyDelete
  44. The kids in Washington state are good to go. I spoke directly to the executive director for football and was told that the only way it would affect the eligibility is if the player is given cash or gifts that total to $300 or more. So as long as your kids is not given anything you are free to play in the bowl games.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Florida contingent should be fine ... directly from 2011/2012 FHSAA guide http://www.fhsaa.org/sites/default/files/attachments/2010/09/16/node-178/football_sport_manual.pdf

25.1 Individuals. Students from FHSAA member schools may participate as individuals in coaching schools, camps, clinics, combines or workshops at any time of the school year without jeopardizing their interscholastic athletic eligibility, provided:

25.1.2 Fees for the students who participate in the event are not paid by the school, coach or school district; however, internal account

  46. Will my child only play the position that they won an award for in the bowl game. For instance, my son won a award for DB will he get to play on offense?

    ReplyDelete
  47. really?? now were gonna start complaining were are kids play?? what happen to just enjoying the week in texas?? and having the honor just to be there!!! everyone needs to worry about getting there athlete registered so o-d can set the schedule for the week!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Regarding everyone's ELIGIBILITY concerns: Athletes are not chosen for participation in the Junior Bowl based on their performance during their high school team's season. Therefore, the event is not a true All-Star game as far as eligibility rulings go. Be sure to check with your local school association, but make sure they give you a copy of the actual rules for you to read and interpret for yourself. More often than not these things are written in a purposefully vague manner so that they can be interpreted a number of different ways depending on the situation.

We are VERY aware of this concern, but it's very difficult for us to keep up with the hundreds of different governing bodies. If you think you may have an issue PLEASE CALL US and we'll do our best to figure it out1

  49. Regarding the $200 fee for not staying in one of our hotels: Some of you hit it on the head. As you can imagine renting out Cowboys Stadium for 2 days and providing tours and free parking for our guests is EXTRAORDINARILY expensive. Not to mention the other facilities, staff, print materials, equipment, etc.

Right now we're relying on hotel room sales to help offset the costs of this event. For more info on what's included when you book with us (or pay the fee) head over to: http://bowl.o-d.com/?page=hotels

  50. Certainlt understandable to help pay for the event. It is an expense but to have an event in this venue cost a small fortune.

On another note will the games be played as real games? Referees? Regulation HS clock? Real coaches etc. This does make a difference as to whether or not my son will attend. It would be an extreme expense for a scrimmage type game like what was played at the camps.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The games will be real games. The games will all have real referees and real coaches. It will not be like the scrimmage at camp. It will be an actual game. As far as the clock goes, it will be a running clock. The game times will be based on the amount of players that attend. Last year we had 16 teams which equated to 8 games. The teams played two 35 minutes halves, running clock with a 10 minute halftime. The clock went to regulation in the final 2 minutes of each half. Also it stopped for time outs. We also are tentatively scheduling a second game for the teams that will be played at U of Texas Arlington the following day (Friday).

    ReplyDelete
  52. Will they definitely play two games minimum?

    ReplyDelete
  53. We're guaranteeing that everyone will get to play one game in Cowboys Stadium. It's likely that we'll be able to give everyone a second game at the UTA stadium, but that's highly dependent on how many Youth players attend the event. Based on our best estimates, we are currently looking at 2 days of practice and 2 days of games for the Youth All-Americans.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thank you o-d for responding to some questions. For first timers (those with young 10yr olds) will they follow similar schedule as above? Meaning 2 days of practice and hopefully 2 games?

    ReplyDelete
  55. my son didnt attend the od camp but he is one of the best players in north carolina in his age group 12 can someone attend that just wants to go play some football

    ReplyDelete
  56. Your boy has to attend one of the O-D Camps to have the opportunity to be selected as an O-D All American. Check their website for locations. It is so worth the money. My son is a freshman this year playing high school varsity. The coaches at camps are top notch and teach these kids so much. These skills follow them not only on the field but also in the classroom. Good luck to you and your son.
