When you first begin playing as a wideout, you'll have to devote a great deal of your time to practice. Some of the challenges you'll encounter are as such:
1. Defenders will make it incredibly difficult for you to gain separation
2. You might find yourself moving in a different direction than the ball is traveling
3. Despite your best efforts, sometimes the ball will zip straight through your hands
4. Contact upon touching the ball may cause you to drop the pass
These things have happened to every wide receiver - don't let them get you down. Stay positive and everything will start coming together for you day-by-day.
The 5 main areas we're going to go over in our Wide Receiver tips are:
1. Finding a good stance
2. How to best release off the line of scrimmage
3. Pass route depths and timing
4. Learning to run short, medium, and deep patterns
5. How to be a good blocker
We'll also go over the mental and physical demands of playing the position.
Starting tomorrow, we'll be getting right into it as we start on stances for wide receivers.
